Dear NPES Families:

We are approaching the end of the school year, and the subject of class placement is a task that we will begin this spring. Class-building is something to which we devote a great deal of time and thought. The responsibility for the placement process at NPES is shared among the grade-level teachers, Mrs. Pearson, our school psychologist, Mrs. Martin, our social worker, and the North administration. Your child's present classroom teacher has current information and helpful insights as to how each youngster works best in school, and this input will be invaluable in creating the class lists for next year. This information, combined with data from specialists, provides the basis for placement.

 

Our goal is to build balanced and compatible classes of similar sizes to create classrooms that foster learning and community. We balance classes with respect to gender, social maturity, special learning considerations, and achievement levels. We also try to ensure that each child has a friend in the new class. The classroom teachers often talk with each child about some friends with whom they work well. Good in-school friends are children who work well together and support one another in a school setting. Friendships that are productive and rewarding outside of school are not always conducive to school learning. Sometimes children have formed exclusive friendships with one or two children, and it may be in the best interests of both children to be separated so they can broaden their social horizons.

 

The school placement team makes the decisions in this process. If you have additional information about your child that might be helpful to the team, please share it with us utilizing the attached Google Form no later than Monday, April 27, 2026. We do not accept requests for specific teachers. Please don’t put your child’s teacher in an awkward position by making such a request.
